Art & Invertebrates on KI

Nature Foundation is proud to support the 2023 Nature Festival as a Festival Partner and by hosting two events as part of the program.

The first of our events was Art & Invertebrates on Kangaroo Island, held on Monday, 2 October 2023.

Nature Foundation members Janine Mackintosh and Dr Richard Glatz are a couple from Kangaroo Island who highlight the importance of nature conservation through their respective fields of art and science.

2023 Pygmy Bluetongue Lizard Crawl
September 29, 2023

Following several cancelled attempts due to the COVID-19 pandemic and weather conditions, we were delighted to finally host our Pygmy Bluetongue Lizard Crawl earlier this week!

This community participation event harnessed the support of our members, who assisted with the preparation of survey plots across our 85-hectare Tiliqua Nature Reserve. Tiliqua is dedicated to protecting the Pygmy Bluetongue Lizard (Tiliqua adelaidensis), which was thought to be extinct until it was rediscovered near Burra in 1992.

2023 Murbpook Waterbug BioBlitz
September 18, 2023

Recently a small group of Nature Foundation members participated in our Waterbug BioBlitz at Murbpook Nature Reserve, becoming citizen scientists and assisting with vital water quality monitoring that will enable us to measure conservation impact and plan further land and water management activities.

Welcoming Associate Professor Jeremy Austin to the Board
August 31, 2023

Nature Foundation is pleased to welcome Associate Professor Jeremy Austin to the Board as a Director in a casual vacancy following the recent retirement of Phil Barron.

Jeremy is a multidisciplinary evolutionary biologist who has worked across natural history museums (The Natural History Museum, London; Museum Victoria, Melbourne) and several Australian universities (University of Queensland, La Trobe University, University of Adelaide). His diverse research focuses primarily on vertebrates (humans, mammals, birds, reptiles), resulting in ground-breaking discoveries in vertebrate evolution that contribute to improved conservation outcomes for a range of threatened species.
