In the News: Pygmy Bluetongue Lizard surveys

November 20, 2024

Our conservation efforts with the endangered Pygmy Bluetongue Lizard were recently in the news, with InDaily and ABC Regional Drive sharing updates about our recent Pygmy Bluetongue Lizard crawl and surveys at Tiliqua Nature Reserve and another location with a Pygmy Bluetongue population near Burra.

Science and Knowledge Program Officer, Dr Lucy Clive, whose PhD focused on Pygmy Bluetongues, spoke with Narelle Graham on ABC Regional Drive.

“This enigmatic species is an important focus of our conservation efforts, with a core population thriving on our Tiliqua Nature Reserve,” said Dr Lucy Clive.

“With such a small number of lizards, in a restricted area of South Australia, land managers have an essential role to play in the conservation and survival of this unique species.

“In partnership with the Pygmy Bluetongue Recovery Team we have established uniform survey methods to help build a more accurate population estimate .”
